RSS

RSS, "Really Simple Syndication," is easy and quick to use. It gives you information on various areas of interest to you, in one place, without being deluged with advertisements. I can and will use this technology in my work and in my personal life.

RSS gives you easy access to information to better help our library patrons. The ALA RSS Feeds connects you with wikis, forums, newsletters, blogs, etc., all related to libraries. Publishers Weekly Rss page gives valuable information/news on books (fiction, non-fiction, and children's books), with reviews and author interviews. These RSS Feeds are valuable resources for librarians, and for anyone who values a good book.

Flickr Tecnology

I want to become adept at using Flickr tecnology to organize my photos. Collections, sets, and tags will help me accomplish my goal. I'm interested in creating photo books to share with family and friends.

Remembering Anne Frank

At Southwest County Regional Library, our current lobby display is in memory of Anne Frank. Anne began to keep her diary on her thirteenth birthday, June 12, 1942. She writes of her life from 1942 to 1944, when her family was hiding in Amsterdam from the Nazis. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl is considered to be one of the most important books of the twentieth century. It has been translated into approximately 60 languages and has sold more than 25 million copies world wide.

Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp. She is one of the 11 million who perished during the Holocaust. Because of her diary, Anne Frank's words will live forever.

Blogging

Blogging is a new experience for me. I think that it can be a valuable tool in sharing information with library staff and patrons. It gives others the ability to voice their opinions regarding your blog.

7 1/2 Habits of Successful Lifelong Learners

The presentation on the 7 1/2 Habits is helpful. Throughout my life I have set goals for myself. I accept responsibility for my own learning. I try to view problems as challenges. My confidence increases with each accomplishment. I like the idea of a learning toolbox. I try to use technology to my advantage. It is important to share knowledge and educate others. Learning should be fun.

Studies have proven that lifelong learning is important for healthy brain function. Challenging myself to learn new skills will improve my memory. The 23Things web 2.0 project will introduce me to new technology available on the Internet. Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage, will be the most difficult habit for me to master. How we retrieve information and how we communicate with others has changed as a result of the Internet. It is valuable to keep current on technology to better serve our library patrons.
